Happy Thursday!
I just wanted to let you know that the picture forms are being sent home today. Picture day is next week, September 12th! You need to fill out one form for each student, however you can pay for all your children together. There will also be a cheer camp flyer sent home to the girls and a boy scout flyer sent home to the boys. Thanks! On Friday, the students received the info for their first book report.
Students may choose a book from any genre, however I have to approve it, ensuring the book is a "good fit" book and is school appropriate. The students will fill out a graphic organizer while they read the story. Once they have finished the graphic organizer and the book, I will give them a piece of construction paper, which they will use to make their own book cover for the story. The students have the whole month to complete this project. It is due on September 27th. Students will most likely bring this project home, however, there will be time during school that they can spend working on it. It was so wonderful to see you last week at orientation. I know we went over a lot of info, but here is a brief overview in case you missed it or misplaced your papers.
FAQ's can be found on a previous blog post, however there are some changes to note. We have 14 students in our class. Instead of doing weekly spelling, we will have a monthly book report. For Reader's workshop, we will be using the Daily 5 framework with stations. This allows me to meet with small groups of students and work with them at their reading level. Discipline/Expectations: I have very high expectations and positive expectations. The students learned them on the first day of school and created a class mantra. If a student has two warnings from me, they will take a break at the refocus area until I can talk to them. Further, more serious action will take place if behavior does not improve, such as a phone call home, conversation with Mrs. Hartrich or Father Nelson or a detention. Scholastic is running a classroom fundraiser with Kellogg. All you have to do is purchase any participating box of Kellogg product and share a photo of your receipt to Kellogg Family Rewards. 1 box=1 free book!
