FAQs About Our Classroom
How can I reach Mrs. Sprouls? The absolute best way to reach me is through my school email. I check my email regularly throughout the school day and also in the evenings. If you would like to come in to school to meet I would appreciate if we could set up a time either before or after school or during a time when the students are at a special. This way, I can best be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you may have and use our time wisely. [email protected] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is the grading scale in 3rd and 4th grade? A 100-94 B 93-86 C 85-76 D 75-68 F 67 and below I= Incomplete E= Effort is shown, but working below grade level --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What can my student do to raise their grade if they get a D or F on an in-class assignment or test? In-class Assignment: If a student receives a D or F on an in-class assignment, I will return it to them with a "Please Correct" note at the top of the page and give them the option to correct it. It must be corrected and returned to me by the next school day. It is their responsibility to remember to turn it back in. I will give 1/2 credit for each corrected answer to raise the grade to a maximum of a 72% or a C-. Extra credit will not be provided at the end of a grading period to raise a student’s grade. Test: If a student receives a D or F on a test, I will return it to them with a "Test Redo" note at the top of the page and give them the option to correct it. It must be corrected and returned to me within two school days. It is their responsibility to remember to turn it back in. I will give 1/2 credit for each corrected answer to raise their grade. Students will also be allowed to use their books to correct a test, but must include the page number with the correct answer. A parent will be required to sign the "Test Redo" note in order to receive any credit. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------When should my student expect to have tests? Each week there will be a Spelling test that falls on the last day of the week, unless otherwise noted. Other subject area tests can take place any day of the week, but I do try my best to avoid having tests on Mondays. I also try to schedule tests in ways that the students do not get overwhelmed. Another place you can keep updated would be your student's planner. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------How will I see important announcements and graded assignments? Each student in our class has their own mailbox. This is where I will place any graded work or important announcements and forms that require your attention. Each student is responsible for checking his or her mailbox everyday so that information gets home to you. Please check your student's take home folder. We also have a class website! Follow the link below for special announcements, weekly spelling homework, newsletters and pictures! https://sprouls4th.weebly.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What about book orders? Book orders will be sent home about once a month. Your student will note the date it is to be returned (about one week later) on the front of the order form. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Can we bring a birthday treat? Birthdays are important in our classroom. When it’s your child’s birthday, they may bring treats for the class and we will have a small party at the end of the day. This year we will have 15 students in our class. If your child has a summer birthday, you may choose to celebrate their half-birthday or you may choose another date. Please let me know the day you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday. We do have one student who has a gluten allergy, if at all possible, please send a gluten-free treat. If you are unable to provide one, please let me know ahead of time and I will make arrangements. If your treat requires plates, silverware, cups, or napkins, please send those in too. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What should I do if my student is sick? Extra copies of assignments will be placed in the black, hanging file outside of our classroom door each day. If you happen to be in the school, you can grab the papers for the day your student was gone. Otherwise, students must retrieve the necessary assignments and materials the next day they are at school. This file may also be used if your student forgets or loses work, however, the file will be emptied every Monday morning. Missed assignments must be turned in after being in back at school an equal amount of time that they were absent. For example, if your student misses two days, their work must be turned in on the third day back to school. Assignments turned in after that day will be treated as any other late assignment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can my student bring a snack to school? Students are welcome to bring in a snack to enjoy during the morning. Please keep the snacks simple. No candy or sweets, please. Comments are closed.
